Who enjoys using words as weapons? What do you think the best usage of words are? And to think on communication, if communication were so important why aren't we all at peace?

Doesn't everyone enjoy using words as weapons from time to time? (at every level of intelect and command of the language).
What is a simple nursery (3yrs +) level name calling session - war with words. It seams to be almost inbuilt into us.
To be able to evisorate and crush one's opponent using nothing more than a bit of intelectual jousting is the basis of much of our society.
I cannot think of any element of my life that does not involve some level of warfare with words. To stay in control of people, whether that is your tantruming 3yr old, your teacher, your manipulative elderly mother, in business & work - everything comes down to words. I think we do it because we all (reguarless of the size of our ego and self worth / confidence) have a desire to be at the top of the pile. At the end of the day if you cannot command and excert some form of control you will be on the lower deck of the slave ship with everyone else above you literally shitting on you. If by a word you can show yourself cleverer than the man next to you or manipulate them...then you will be promoted as having, or percieved as have at least, more worth. Words = power.

communication doesn't equal piece, communication could be me asking you questions while torturing you and you giving me wrong or right answers Wink

though i say it myself, i can be pretty nasty with my mouth, i'm a creative expletive creator. i love making swear words up you fuck lug Hysterical (joke, joke, it was a joke) a good swear word can create an acidic place. the truth is another type of communication that when used properly can be sharper than any knife. yeah, i have to hold my hand up and say guilty Blush

"Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" who ever came up with this was probably deaf. Words are weapons theres bullying, manipulation and lying (fabricated accusations). Many teens have killed themselves over words, women who have successfully left their abusive boyfriend or husband are still dealing with the emotional abuse because it takes a longer time to heal (same with men) Theres verbal abuse that can intimidate or scare anyone. I'm guilty of using words as a weapon toward people. If it's clever enough and/or mean enough it can be considered a bullet.
And I believe AJ put it best when it comes to the power of words that influence everything in our life. I think the reason why communication is important but doesn't deliver peace is because of what AJ explained. We use words for ourselves to get through the day in one peice. When it comes to peace in the world there are so many loud voices so many different opinions and facts that it all becomes static so peace won't come from communication.

Everywhere you look you see people forming groups, small or large. They place everyone outside the group as an enemy, or worth less than the members.

Religion when you break it down is just a form of control over people, using words. Do this that or the other, or god will be angry and you will go to hell. And of course everyone else is an infidel or barbarian and must be killed, or treated as lesser.

Education is a form of control using words, the written history is never really accurate, just reflecting what the powers that be, or what the winners through history want you to believe.

When there is a communication barrier, be it language or cultural, the differences along with prejudices create conflicts.

In a school where 99% of the students are white, and one, or maybe 3 are african american, it is only natural to treat them differently. To look for ways to prove you are superior to them. I myself was taller than most, and that small difference singled me out from the crowd, spawning little hate groups against me. Not because i was in any way a worse or lesser person, just different.

On the whole people would rather hate, and try prove someone is lesser in order to elevate themselves. It is a wonder at all that society has come this far along with so many ingrained natural hatreds.

One could say that if a single race eliminated all the other races, and then eliminated all other religions or all religions, that the world may be more peaceful after that. On the other hand limiting the gene pool so much could open everyone up to be wiped out to a single susceptability.

How many books, be they fiction or non fiction are truely good books with only good things and kind words in them? Most fiction is about murder, rape, crime, war, strifes. And non fiction is similar, with hardships and wars spawning more books and seemingly more interesting ones than completely nice ones.

In fact can anyone think of a single book that is realistic where nothing really bad happens, only good?

If you look at the framework most writers use, you set up introducing a protagonist, and an ANTAGONIST, and then introduce a situation where there is CONFLICT, the only good if any comes from resolution of the conflict later on. It seems happy endings arent as desired as unhappy ones.

I agree with everything you just stated. That while words are weapons we almost always thrive on them, we either come out of it the loser or the winner. And we are taught by textbook that is often one-sided. Words are an effective tool and serve different purposes, but one thing for sure it can create drama and it can be used for control. I think anyone who writes are easily fixated on words and have a fascination with them, they know what to write and how to write it to make it appealing. While they write either to inform, create or entertain for a job or hobby I think that's what sticks to people. It can influence anyone whether you're naive or not.
