I think someone needs to sort out Somalia. If the country wasn't such a mess, maybe they could safeguard their own waters, create jobs to feed the population/keep them from pirating and rebuild their economy.

It's a cause/effect situation imo. They've nothing else that earns them good money as easily. And law is not being inforced by Somalian authorities very well.

with my own specialized dungeon tools and devices

sadly i think a lot of money from the piracy goes to corrupt officials. it has to.
if they have proof the pirates should be tried and given a longer than long prison sentence which is paid for by the insurance companies. or at least contributed to by them.
if not that then just throw them overboard.

let's not forget these guys initially got pretty desperate after, amongst others the koreans driftnetted their coast empty of fish
they went from fishermen into piracy out of 'necessaty'

most of them aren't fishermen and most of the piracy is done way away from their coastline. sometimes by hundreds of miles. most of them are left overs from the war in somalia. they killed the fishermen and stole their fuckin boats.

and just lets say they are disenfranchised fishermen. does that give them the right to hijack shipping and hold the people for ransome, sometimes killing them and very often raping any females they find.

they committed some rather large crimes. much more so that any hungry mouth should commit.
they should face the proper punishment in my mind.
