On a shelf by the fridge in my local Chinese
is a large golden cat with an arm that waves incessantly.
I imagine her (or maybe him. It glitters and its ears are pink;
an Asian ladyboy, perhaps?) looking over my shoulder
through the glass shopfront as pramfaces and yobs
pass by. On the arm is some Chinese lettering.
Maybe it says: "HELLO FROM ANOTHER WORLD!"

I'd say to it... "Anywhere!... Anywhere out of this world..." But I prefer to be illiterate.

I'm sure that's what the cat's big, soulless eyes were silently screaming... Thanks for the comment, rowens

Maybe it was just telling you what time it was.

Oh god we have tons of those here
It's a "luck with money" thing, that's why shops have it. It's not the weirdest quirk I've seen even... We went to a restaurant that honest to god had this altar of garden gnomes that they laid out food for.
PS. If you can, try your hand at giving some of the others a bit of feedback. If you already have, thanks, can you do some more?

Thanks for the info guys! I didn't know those cats were Chinese takeaway staples, which people on DU have told me they are. Now I also know what they mean. The garden gnome thing sounds very creepy...
