The Big November by only rob

When I draw my shades
the birds stop
the sky
the laughing children
the woman in the sun dress
backlit
a walking hymn

but I can’t see her limbs
grow away
or the butterflies

fall.

I really liked this one. It sort of reminded me of one I'd read by Ted Kooser. I really like the idea of her limbs growing away.

they seem so pitiful, all of them, so yes, i take them in.
but, truth be known, i'm not that nice, i need to USE them.
(it's only later, when i hear cackles, that i realize they use[d] me.)

Interesting choice. The title grabbed me, as did the final drop with 'fall'.

did you actually mean “see her limbs grow away”. or did you mean you cant truthfully make out where she was going or what she was so you want her too grow away..
