Porn filmmakers are considering leaving LA, where around 90 percent of porn in the US is filmed, if city authorities enact a measure to police film sets and order that every actor be outfitted with a condom while having sex, for health and safety reasons.

Los Angeles city council granted final approval to an ordinance that would deny film permits to producers who do not comply with the condom requirement. If they stick to their guns, they could potentially lose business from the billion dollar industry.

The adult film industry argues that it already enforces its own measures, requiring actors be tested for sexually transmitted diseases a minimum of every 30 days when they are working. They also argue that consumers, particularly those overseas, have made it clear they won't watch films when the actors use condoms, complaining that it is distracting and ruins the fantasy.

I'm of two minds over this. I kinda see where LA is coming from... regular STD testing is excellent, but its not the preventative measure condoms are. Plus seeing condoms in media might help normalize it further. However, the filmmakers are correct that porn is supposed to be over-the-top fantasy and I imagine it could be a drag, not that I'm a connoisseur or anything. What do you guys think?
PS. If you can, try your hand at giving some of the others a bit of feedback. If you already have, thanks, can you do some more?

Hello addy nice to meet you, speaking purely from a technological point of view one would think that condoms could be worn and then edited out on a compter somehow, lol, just a thought, cheers Wink

Hiya jim. Smile LOL, I hadn't even thought of CG penises Big Grin It'll be a brave new world for porn if they pull it off though from what i hear their budgets are usually mediocre (99.9% percent of it is shot in their own living rooms, right?)

How is seeing a bit of rubber on the end of some guy's dick destructive to the fantasy? Besides, there will always be a high demand for porn, regardless of such measures. It's a completely infallible industry, because most human males are built to crave sexual release, so I think filmmakers can afford to enforce the use of contraceptives.
I completely agree with this measure, and think it should have been brought in years ago. The law should protect actors against exploitation. Without enforcing the use of contraceptives filmmakers are putting them at needless risk.

half the time false cocks are used anyway. what they could do is have insurance to cover the cost of hiv infections shoild hiv be caught. to force anyone to wear a condom to me seems wrong. wearing one is a chioce between two parties. to say under the pathogen laws you must wear one is stupid. the get around that clause would to be just pay them for the grunts and get the pics for fun. i'm sure if the porn industry moves to vegas or philly LA will be devastated.
ps sort out an edit on your queen poem please Smile

jack; actors can say no and get a job somewhere else if they want. it's a sex film, it isn't a safe sex film Wink
