Ode to my...

Cadillac Margarita

Ms. Rita drives her Cadillac,
Straight out the drive, and then drives back.
Waving at the passers-by,
while letting out a wistful sigh.

Pouts, that silly folk deprive
her of the basic need to drive--
it wasn't she who caused the mess
on I-10! She removed her dress

to even out a fading tan,
for she desires to please her man!
But I assured her, it's all right,
I love my Rita, dark or light!

Haha, well, aren't you the tolerant one? Big Grin

(We don't normally do much critique in the fun section, but because I'm really anal about this sort of thing, the headless iamb in S2L1 could easily be re-headed with "she pouts"... feel free to ignore me though, it's just a bad habit I have!)

I've never actually tried one of these things, but I googled and discovered that I absolutely must. Thanks for the idea, and for the most enjoyable poem.

Leanne,
No worries. I respect your perceptive eye. Actually, I had written it that way in an earlier draft, changed it every which way from beginning to end, and will no doubt do so again. This began as a toss-away verse, so I suppose whatever I end up with is better than the original anyhow. Thanks for the comments.

Never toss away that which makes people laugh -- it's a dying art these days, in poetry at least, and woefully underrated.

Thank you.
Actually, you'd be surprised how many crappy rhymes I have saved to my folders in the past 10 or 11 years. Once in awhile, it comes in handy when I see a line that I am able to cannibalize for use somewhere else.
