the world is carved by axes
exes and whys
egos and eyes
without latitude
shake your plates
you may just start a wave
tidal or no
we have had enough of pierage
It could be worse

Okay, I'm going to take a shot in the dark and guess what this poem means: the world is ordered in such a repressive fashion, based on our egos and faulty perceptions of reality, that we are not free. We are allowed no latitude, but must live our lives from A to Z with no deviations or passions. Thus the narrator implores us to "shake [our] plates" and create a wave. Doesn't matter if it's tidal (destructive) or not; either way it will be a rebellion against the soul-crushing norm.
Am I close?

That'll do
I find it difficult to resist a pun. I offer no excuse...

I'll take it

Good poem by the way. The plates image was especially compelling.

Were you commissioned by the just-finished Latitudes festival for next year? It'd be your chance to hob-nob with some muso types, and the poshos -- I know what a snob you are.
I wish I had thought up the first four lines. Grrr! But thanks also for a mild dose of ambiguity ---- any more clarity, and I'm leaving!

Yes, but the spelling will remain as is or it will bugger up the pun, same as tidal/title
I'm now imagining the House of Lords awash in soggy semolina pudding... Cheers Billy.

There's a festival and I missed it? Of course I did, I'm far too busy being staid and boring and domesticated these days... gone are the hobnobbing days, unless you're talking about the biscuits

PS. If you can, try your hand at giving some of the others a bit of feedback. If you already have, thanks, can you do some more?
