My body modification is mostly limited to makeup and the most "extreme" I have is pierced ears hehe... so really I have no personal experience.
The range of what's acceptable vs not widely accepted is interesting... for instance, hairdye has the "utilitarian" use of hiding gray hair (therefore hiding age) but is most commonly used by women to make themselves look more attractive. But it seems the fact that it's non-invasive means it's closer to makeup (which is widely accepted) than it is to plastic surgery (which, though common and accepted now, still carries a stigma). What I do find interesting is the stigma against people making themselves look different than normal... tattoos, extreme surgery, implanted whiskers, etc. I wonder why people react negatively against it (even me, I would be taken aback by the sight of a person with lots of piercings and tattoos on his face, but really, why should it be a big deal at all?)
PS. If you can, try your hand at giving some of the others a bit of feedback. If you already have, thanks, can you do some more?

I like the idea of one day getting a tattoo, like the Sylvia Plath quote "my heart beats the old tattoo: I am, I am, I am" on my arm or something. Plastic surgery I think should stay within the realm of celebrity excess. I don't like how it's being almost normalised.

I have my ears pierced and I do wear a little (very little) make-up, and I've never dyed my hair.
I'm not for tattoos ... don't like the look both on men or women ... just not my thing.
I disagree with piercing young children's ears, feel it should be left for when they are older as I see it as a personal decision.
As for breast augmentation, again it's a personal choice, I do however feel sad that so many woman's self worth seems to be wrapped up in breast size. I also feel a great concern for young girls having breast implants, especially before their young bodies have fully matured.
That all said, we live life once and should live it in whatever way brings us joy and/or satisfaction so long as no one gets hurt.
And this fine dude has taken body modification to a whole other level.
I'd be curious to see what he looks like when he's an old man

Nope ... his name is Dennis Abner
I had seen an interview with him a couple of years ago, very interesting man, well educated and not crazy in the head ... just has
a deeply routed need to be a tiger.

hehe
so do i, i love being called tiger hehe.
seriously. though i think what he's done stupid, he went for what he want in the most dramatic of ways.
to him and many he is an artist, he's created something that's probably unique.
i know there are a few out there who have done similar things, but imagine if we all did it. it would no longer be classed as anything except normal.

Well Tiger , I'm pretty sure such body modifications as that will not become the norm, I can't see too many folks going to the extreme that Dennis and a few others have ... gosh, could you imagine?

me neither, and you're the first person ever to call me tiger hehe
i have a few tats but nothing expansive or out of the ordinary.
a few of them done by myself in my youth. i have seen women who have had so much plastic surgery they have fixed smiles and bulbous cheeks, it's pretty scary looking. what do they see when they look in the mirror. even boobs, who are they really done for? more often than not i think it's done for the guy.

I totally disagree with ya sj ... sadly a lot of women turn themselves into whores in hopes of earning male attention ... the boobs, make-up, and seductive dress is mostly for you boys

thank you girls
seriously, i think the fake boobs often add to any insecurities a woman may have.
most often get the boobs done and then get something else done, many keep going back to get bigger boobs
it then becomes an addiction of sorts.

I remember as a young teeny-bopper we girls used to sing this little song ....
We must, we must improve our bust
The bigger the better, the tighter the sweater
The boys will be impressed with us

yeah, i heard it hehe.
of course we all would love to enhance ourselves or be better looking, but for most of us it's only a want or a wish to a point, getting plastically enhanced is a no no for most of us. what about in the future when with the use of nano bots they'll be able to sculpture how we look in every aspect
is liposuction an okay procedure to have done?

Man I hate that song, but it was a lot cuter back when it was harmless
Now we've got girls barely through their puberty getting boob jobs as "birthday presents"

Sickening is right. The parents are setting these little girls up for a lifetime of heartache with all the wrong messages about self image and worth.
I agree with sj, they should be sent to a psychiatrist where most of those young girls will end up ... if not, for some shady modeling career.
