Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam called Wahhabism, and lashings are a common form of punishment.

Last October, a court sentenced a man to five years in prison and 1,000 lashes after he bragged about his sex life on television.

Last March, a Saudi court sentenced a 75-year-old Syrian woman to 40 lashes, four months imprisonment and deportation from the kingdom for having two unrelated men in her house.

In 2007, a 19-year-old gang-rape victim in the Saudi city of Qatif was sentenced to 200 lashes and six months in prison for meeting with an unrelated male. The seven attackers, who abducted the man and woman, got sentences ranging from 10 months to five years in prison. The case sparked international outrage, prompting Saudi's King Abdullah to pardon the girl and the unrelated male.

According to that article, authorities say the punishment is fine because ""the girl accepted the verdict" *facepalm* So that justifies them being completely brutal? Besides, maybe she just "accepted" it because its better than getting stoned to death.

Let me say this....no mater where you live there is rule of law, if you live there then you know the penalties for breaking them for the most part. Everyone has the freedom of choice untill they get cought. She took her chances and accepted her punishment for her choice.

years ago it was law the negro's were chattel (property) now if you try that you get charged with slavery, kiddnapping, and a few other crimes. the law changed. we can change unjust laws sometimes.

often we can change them simply by talking about them. a few years ago the girl would have had her hand chopped off as it was the offending article. now she gets lashed, who knows, if enough people talk about it for long enough the next girl may only get 50 lashes and the one after her 5.

being a law doesn't always mean it's fair or just.

but it is her law. the law of her land.

what i'm saying is; it's a barbaric law. A law that the poeple who live there should try and change if they don't like it. i'm pretty sure the majority think the law barbaric for such an offence but we don't really know, so we use our own frame of reference and say it's barbaric. Sure if you are a native to that land and you have a problem with the laws in your own land then by all means try to change them. Outsiders need to stay outside and mind their own business. Nothing worse than a nosey damned neighbor.

he wasn't just talking the people in the usa. he was talking to the whole world. when you say native, do you mean born there?

personally i think some laws in other countries are unjust. thankfully we have a law that says i can voice that opinion, i think everyone should be entitled the same privilege.
