Invocation

If I were Pessoa,
I'd be happy;
as nothing is more true
than what is.
Not being—
I can imagine,
time, ships, cups and diners,
women who don't know me.
—But I won't think of time:

Inherent as it is,
the atmosphere of,
the context of me
looking back to weathers
and accents which are actually
now, and more felt than sensed.

And in this way, I am happy.
Not being Pessoa.
Pretending I am.

Interesting in that Pessoa wote under dozens of pseudonyms, and wasn't himself sometimes either.

Have you ever watched I Heart Huckabee's?

If the Existential Detectives asked me: How am I not myself, I'd say: What about Breakfast at Tiffany's?

Memory works that way sometimes.

After discovering Pessoa through this poem, stumbling upon Autopsychography, and learning of his multiple pseudonyms courtesy of Mark, I think he'd be inclined to agree that there is happiness in pretending, with an awareness of the pretending. Happiness is such a loaded word though. Not that this piece doesn't respect that, since it mentions a kind of happiness in pretending.

I think grief requires a veil to protect itself from situations that could expose it to indifference. The need to create that barrier means that the grief is true. To create that barrier, the grief has to be understood. To understand my grief by creating an effective veil is to be in sync with the self, or happy.

Sorry for the ramble, thank you for sharing.
