Chords and Connections

Chords and Connections

What remains are memories
of the sounds speakers amplify.
Lights dancing reflecting off chrome.
Colors blend and blur in sight.

Drinking light beer in-between songs,
pretending it will quench thirst.
An uncontrollable feeling to laugh
despite feeling you're worked.

Waking up expecting connection
between circuits and chords.
Between the Nikes on your feet
and the carpet above the boards.

Waiting with your friends before
music begins, making sure they're alright.
Smoke is visible, jokes are cynical
shivering on a winter night.

Conviction that success is momentary.
Noting that no performance lasts forever.
Solidarity shared within growths struggle.
Tonight you'll see your strength.

Hoping to play that next note
this is what remains.

Not to critique, but "cynical," I believe.  Unless you meant to blend with "syndicate?"  Black humor in the green room.  Good poem about performance.

Hard to believe anyone got along without chords, but... remembered quote, accurate as far as I know:  speaking of the time before fusion and borrowing began, "An African would have found Western music rhythmically uninteresting, and an Oriental would have found Western music melodically uninteresting.  A Westerner would have found  African and Oriental music harmonically uninteresting."

Hi, Bunx, I've been enjoying this, a good description of performance and being part of a group,. I especially like S3. It's odd the way the only the middle rhymes. When I start to do that I take the rhyme out but I'm fine with it here. L6 quench? Thanks for posting it.

Hey Ella and Duke I made those corrections thanks for catching them.

This poem was definitely an exercise to write about positive subject matter. I'm glad you both enjoyed it!
