The Vaudevillian Yearns for Modern Love

Earnestly sozzled bread,
solidified sickness
in hail and sleet-thought rhyme:
comedian of age:
with act before a screen,
can armchair genius peck
a daughter from dead seed?

Model, shopgirl, equal
as queens in mad Mab songs:
wings of up-puffed collar
and corn syrup on sleeves:
Idle wood may cringe, feign
to inflect: twin forked-chords
carrying forth the deed.

Is the dumb truth that's lust,
no less through the putty-
glue that's entertainment,
as honest as the ground?
Sodden allusions,—with
performance,—partway knead?
