The Fastest Man

No longer exists at all
except as numbers
frozen on a stopwatch
and the afterimage going dim
breath thinning
before the first stair
leaning back, one arm bent, the other lifted
grasping nothing

"Kangaroo Flop"

Zero points and zero mercy,
although she broke with all her heart;
Her blinkers would not let her see
her dance was doomed right from the start.

Too old to win, she lacked the power
and tried instead to get creative.
Alas, the judges merely glowered
and found her footwork unpersuasive.

Her kangaroo hop made the news,
and waves of mockery swept in.
From hopeful star to tanked reviews,
she quit the scene in pure chagrin.

Around the world the breakers wailed,
Their sport’s debut a total fail.

Everyone Loves Hedgehogs

Croquet!  Dynamic sport
first added to Olympic competition
in 1900, then immediately dropped.

Played in Paris, where at least
someone knew how to pronounce
its name correctly.  Sad to say,

there was but one spectator, far
outnumbered by participants
(and being British he undoubtedly

called it “Crokey.”)  Pity: how
to rev up interest?  Bring out the
regulation hedgehogs and flamingos!

Looking for that nonsense prompt...
