Summer

They’re talking about property
and refinancing, over coffee
at the Greek cafe. Meanwhile, with a smile
White Australia’s advancing,
and every problem's explanation
is “too much immigration!”

The book I'm reading doesn't care
about property or immigration,
or Trump, even Putin's defenestration
of certain opponents. Only the stare

of a passing apatosaurus
at a crouched allosaurus in the fern,
their footprints cast in porous
sedimentary rock. I burn

in the noon with its cicada chorus,
for a world that won't return.

Loved "defenestration," a word used too seldom. Let's hope Putin's (ambiguous) doesn't have quite the consequences of the more famous incidence, Prague, 1618.

Nice shifty rhyme scheme, too. Walking the trackway at Glen Rose (Texas), the obvious question arose: not, what happened when the carnosaur and herbivore tracks intersected (not visible) but, what monumental disaster ensued immediately after the tracks were made that filled them in and kept them filled for the next 80 million years or so?

One scenario:
hardrosaur: look behind you! a meteorite!
carontaurus: oh no, I'm not falling for that one again. I turn around, you waddle off...say, why are these avian dinosaurs flying away?
BOOM!
