touchy
an awkward grin at her
touching my swollen groin
yet I don’t remember
her hands inside my body
funny how
I wear embarrassment
now, with my pants down
trying to seem casual
as she smiles and says,
your surgery went very well

The lead-in was outrageous enough that I sort of saw the punch line coming a verse or two ahead. Having (ahem) been there. It is funny, though... I wonder how much general anesthesia addresses the issue of embarrassment more than we like to think. I mean, a big dose of rum, biting a bullet, and being held immobile by a couple of hearties used to suffice for surgeries including limb removal. No women aboard the tall ships, then - that must be it.
