Hostage Poem

What are they, these
lights in the night,
so like to drones
of our own making?

Are they Russian
to avenge
aid to Ukraine
that leaves them weeping?

Vengeful ifrits
from Iran,
meant to disrupt
inauguration?

China sent them,
products of
resentment and
fear of containment?

Or might they be true
UFOs
relieved to throw off
old disguises?

A hostage poem, to
fortune. Soon
we’ll know the truth–
or, lucky, not.

I feel like this poem has a deeper meaning holding our collective psyche hostage. In the United States we know enough to know too much without knowing anything at all.
Only one thing is impossible for God: To find any sense in any copyright law on the planet.

I think they check in periodically to see if we've blown ourselves up, and then go back disappointed at being denied a peaceful colonisation

it'll have to be a meteorite strike again, like with those fractious lizards...

One can almost hear them thinking, "Brilliant idea, Knoj,  instead of all that stealth nonsense they were catching on to anyway, just include red and green navigation lights and flashing beacons, plus some decorative propellers!"  If one were able to think in Martian, that is.
