I wonder if our priest,
who's been to Jerusalem,
Mount Athos, the great Lavra
of Saint Sergius Radonezhsky,
and the humble grove of conifers
near the Mohawk River that Saint John
partly consecrated, misses
solitude. I wonder if he'll take
Minecraft, with a taiga seed
and a church and chamber built,
as a hopeful little gift,
and not just a distraction.

Dungeon and Lazarus

Surely all who play at video
have dived a dungeon, glad it’s all in fun:
unending corridors of cross-barred sun
beset by devil-beasts, a rodeo

where they’re the cattle. Often there’s no gold,
or spell or lawyer to affect release–
just mocking jailors whose taunts just increase
as they grow sick and prematurely old.

Some die with no lives left, no magic fix
for accusations never brought to trial,
their only hope to rise from durance vile
is pardon... like the heroes of J6.

A bunch of millennials
Taking turns on a console
Passing back and forth guitars
No where near ancient high scores
Years of waiting for its turn
The dusty disc spins and burns
Pausing at the height of fun
We witness the death of a Playstation
Peanut butter honey banana sandwiches
