Don't Take My Advice
that's my first piece of advice."

"Don't take advice
from your parents,
or your friends."

"Do take it from dogs,
or most any other animal,
for that matter."

"Why?" you wonder.

"Because.
Animals don't talk,
but they listen very well."

For P and G

Today is so much different
from when your gr’uncle grew up
there’s not much advice
he can give you.  But
some things don’t change
so here goes:

Save money.  When you get
a dollar, put ten cents away
not to spend but to keep.
You’ll never miss it and some day
it will prevent your owing
more than you can pay.

Oh, by the way
never get into debt.

Be suspicious of what makes
you feel good, excited or real relaxed
but you need a little more
of it each time.
That’s another kind
of debt
but you can never get enough
tobacco, alcohol, drugs
or gambling rush
to pay it off.
Better not to start.

And one last thing:
when a Texan lady
says “Well, bless your heart,”
think very hard
about what you just did or said
wrong.

Ya got a little typo up there, but this is truly uncommon wisdom.  Nice one!

they say God is watching
I don’t know but maybe act that way
if it won’t get you killed

drugs can be beneficial
but approach them like a shaman
and if you don’t understand that
wait until you do

you’re going to see so much beauty:
figure a way to put each experience
where you can retrieve it

I’m a little sad now, so don’t put
too much into these ramblings,
time to dial up some beauty…

You must work at what you love.

The moon is so pale
the frost shakes my toes
every morning.

You must work at what you love.

In the evening, darkness and cold.

Look, kid, if I had wisdom to share
I wouldn't be sharing it here with you.
I would be writing it down, sharing it
with all the rest of the world

which always, always, will be so much bigger
than yourself. In fact, it's kinda pointless
to grow up
but you'll do so anyway

so what's the rush? Gathering advice is for editors
and keeping it, for librarians.
