Theme of the month ideas needed
#1
Hello valued members, we need your ideas!

We are hoping to post a themed poetry thread for each month where poets can post as many poems as they like (as long as it adheres to the theme) within the thread.  We already have a few of these going (this month’s was the suicide thread), but we would like to fill out the rest of the year and have one theme for each month.

Below is the calendar as it currently stands.  Do y’all have suggestions to fill in the remaining months?  These would be annually recurring threads, so topics that are fun/easy/popular to write about again and again would be best.

(Also, in May we are all weary from NaPM so what would be a good ‘reviving/inspiring’ type of topic?)

January- ?????

February- love poems

March-  ?????

April- NaPM

May-  ?????

June-  ?????

July- suicide

August- pets

September-  ?????

October- all things scary

November- LPIA

December- pigmas (continues into Jan.)

And, before we get a flood of ideas, I think it's important that topics should be very broad -something you could write 100 poems about. It's no use hosting a "first annual poems about refraction" month.  Hysterical  Broad subjects promote participation 100%.

March and/or September: poems about the equinox, or seasonal transitions

May: flowers and other budding wonders (northern hemisphere)

June: vacations/getaways (beach/mountains)

I don't care which month, but I'd like to see "Outer Space" as a topic.  And maybe another science-y one.

Hey everyone. Our calendar is filling out nicely. September is still open and we are approaching it quickly. I am leaning toward an idea already shared here, but will consider other ideas for a few more days. See you Sept. 1st

Thanks for remembering this. I keep forgetting that it exists.

Some extremely general prompt theme ideas …
Science
History
Historical person
Art
Animals
Plants
Geology/biology
Literature
Emotions
Found poems
Stages of life (childhood/old age etc)
Forms (sonnet?)
Altered Perspective

I think that a good form would be Common Meter. The first things I wrote using meter were in that style, and I find it natural to write in. I think it can be a good introduction to meter as it's fairly simple, and it can be easy to churn out short poems with.

Maybe this is not the right place to ask, but is there any possibility of daily prompts? The last one was really fun, and I need to stay busy. Or is the idea that you would write a number of poems about the monthly topic?

The most interesting prompt I've encountered so far is to tell a story backward. Weird things happen.....

I think if Lizzie wants to give a daily prompt as an invite for people, I'd say that's a job she can have, til November. There's no pay though, and you won't be purple, but hey I say go for it!

Why are you talking about me in the third person?

Why are you trying to flex a color on me?

I'm trying to get out of my head, not further in....  Tongue

It’s a fine place to ask.  Yes, you can write as many poems as you want in the monthly thread.  You can also write as many poems as you want in the random prompt thread.

There are two reasons (at least that I can think of) that we don’t do a regular daily prompt, 1. After only one month of daily prompts during NaPM, most of the members are a bit burnt out.  Eternal daily prompts probably would be too draining and would in the end be detrimental to creativity.  2. We are too lazy and forgetful (at least I am) to accomplish such a thing.  Big Grin

We could try to make the random prompts more frequent than they are.  I think it’s fun when they pop up like mushrooms at unexpected times.  And prompt suggestions are always welcome.  I don’t have a problem with members also posting their own random “prompt of the day” if they feel inspired.

Soon (I forget which month) we will have daily prompts during our “let’s pretend it’s April” extravaganza.

So, yes, Lizzie, you can post prompts and we can post more prompts and also soon there will be so many more prompts.

Prompts.

Thumbsup

(And we do pay, but only with Pigbucks.)

I have no problem posting prompts. In fact I quite enjoy it. The only issue is that if posted every day, they would lose their spontaneity and participation would suffer. Last prompt you guys ran with. I've posted a new one for Lizzie, well, for everyone.

Why are you talking about me in the third person? That's how I talk in a room full of people.  It's specific.

Why are you trying to flex a color on me?
I'm sorry you can be purple or blue or any color you please. You're beautiful.
