don't buy anything on credit. even though I have paid over 5,000.00 dollars on a student loan of 5,000.00 dollars, because I defaulted they started adding on all kinds of penalties and interest, so now I owe 25,000.00, and unless I stumble across that amount and use it to pay the loan off, I will be paying on it until I die, plus anything above 500.00 every two weeks I make they take all of that.

what happens if you default?
in the uk you go to court and they say how you much you pay a month based on what you earn and what your outgoings are. often they wipe off a lot of the excess charges.

I am in default. They just up the interest rate to about 30% and start tacking on any sort of penalty they can think of. Because it is the government they can garnish your wages. If I make over 500 a pay check, they start taking a %. If I make enough they take 100% of whatever I make above that limit. At one point in time they were taking about 600 a month. Because of child support, and other stuff they take off at the front end I have to work about 3 and 1/2 days before I make any money, but if I work more than 8 days they start taking so much out for the student loan it's not worth working. So the tops I can make a pay period is about 563.00. So 1220.00 is about all I can make. If I work less than 6 days I don't make anything, and if I work more than 9 days I don't make anything. I make enough to live, but I can never get ahead or save any money. Fun, huh? Think I might go live with SJJ.
