What even is a foot in a poem?
Is it an inch or a leg with a bone?
Do you even notice the numbers each line?
do i ACcent the SYllables for YOur ease of MInd?
Shimabakura is a name I remember
And every now and then shout out like 'Timber!'
Come to think of it he had a dog named Pete,
that didn't have all his feet.

Aschenputtel
They look like dirt, those stains
on slippers barely worn
and barely washed when, promptly post-"I do",
the princess took them off, threw them aside---she never liked
their fit.
Meanwhile, the prince insists
there's nothing like a bit of blood
to consecrate a courtship,
"to make it interesting".
So this is the reward she gets? Yes, they'd locked her in that day: how can she forget
first her anger then her sadness
then the silence that took over
as their mother, their dear mother,
pulled the carver from the drawer---

I used to wear huaraches year round,
those wonderfully primitive Mexican sandals
with soles made of old tire tread,
supposedly soaked in used car oil
to give the leather its forever life.
I still remember the slap of the soles
on pavement and linoleum,
my pride to walk in the same shoes
as the unconquerable Mestizos.
I gave them up when my feet collapsed
and now wear the slippers of Kung Fu fighters
with special inserts to keep my in-step propped up.
But it's not the same feeling to be walking
like a man from China who's lost his way.

The principality of footwear
I know the proper techniques
and studied them thoroughly.
I wore sandals in the Winter
because I predicted it would be cold and
I wore boots in the Summer because
it would be hot.
I took the time to understand the principles
and demonstrated them thusly--
something my peers were too afraid
to practice.

Bared Logic
A cowboy takes his boots off first
as everybody knows
perhaps because feet pain him worst
as his unbooting shows.
In ancient times around the sea
Mediterranean,
their sandals came off last to be
bare, Apollonian.
It’s climate, see, that sets the pace
for how and what we wear
upon our feet, not style or grace–
as if the burdocks care.

Footwear
What’s the word for
I cut up a dictionary
with a blender and all
Some tap water
Watched a vortex of white pulp
Dirty itself grey
And smeared our world
Between my toes

Really fine, Duke. I did have to look up "burdocks".

By careful
where you step-
though people
should know
the meaning
of the word
"sidewalk"
I'm pretty sure
most dogs don't.
