Our Neighborhood

Putting up cameras, cutting down trees,
making the place an unbearable place to be
for me.
Flood lights, these steal the night
from the moon, the nocturnal spooks,
cats with their own glowing eyes.
Feral America, there's more to flag
and God than sun.

Electronics obstruct the blind scenery,
putting a maze between me
and how I feel.
Simple.
I don't imagine stars as radical satellites.
Their lights are beyond any preference
I could install.

Aesthetics is a banshee in heat,
dead and sterile past ever living
until I assimilate.
One with the culture of light.

I'm conservative,
I'm in love within the stain of nature
I was born.
Ingrate.
Change is bright.

Ingrate is an obscure use of and not at all subtle reference to Paradise Lost. Who is it referring to, the speaker or the perpetrator of whatever the speaker is complaining about? Both.
