Title TBA
Birds, when they eat the eggs of other birds
don’t care if they consume some broken shell–
it’s just more grist for their digestive crops.
I have a title in mind, but don't care for it very much. What do readers think this is about?

I don't think grist is the right word to use. Though, I like what you are going for

This is a metaphor for people getting what they want from others
even if it hurts them.
Thanks for the read

I pretty much have to be hit over the head with a 2 X 4 by a poem if I'm expected to read more into than what it tells me up front. I guess if I had to write an explication, which I am very bad at, I'd say it's about life as it is. E.g. forget your romantic notions and face the harsh realities of existence.
Since most birds don't practice this type of behavior, I think the poem would be better if it was about a specific type of bird that practices nest raiding.
Sorry, no ideas about a title.

I'm sometimes not so good with symbology and metaphors and had you not asked what we thought it was about i would have said that it was a good use of the double meaning of the word 'grist' a grain and another way of saying 'something turned to advantage or use' - it could be the title
would it alter your meaning if the first word was crows or another type of bird

The metaphor is just vague enough that the intended subject could be many things. I feel like the word "crops" is a hint because it reads out of place at first. I'm inclined toward "Consumers" or some form thereof as a title, but this bird doesn't feel on firm enough ground to fully advise. When I write something I know is ambiguous, the title is usually my go-to for added clarity. What was the title you don't care for?

Answering the critics first (and typing on my phone

)
Reminds me of the mobbing of a crow
pursued by other species quite diverse
who must have caught it with egg on its breath.
Title was to be
