The Turtles and the WEBB

Just before daybreak
on Christmas Eve,
in French Guiana,
a brilliant star
will briefly appear,
rising closer
than ever
to heaven-
to a place
called L2,
a million miles
away.

Slowly,
slowly,
it will open
a clear, cold
EYE
to gaze upon
the cosmic dawn.

It will look
for answers
that are sure
to ask
more questions.

Forever
in awe,
we are
compelled
to keep on
chasing
those turtles-
all
the
way
down.

Enjoyed the subject matter and the googling rabbit hole it inspired. You've got a good amount of specific details for a short piece - and a nice balance of language to keep those details from reading as dry. A poem shouldn't feel like science class and I think you negotiated that nicely here. I'm glad you posted in Misc. because I feel as though an edit would just nibble away at its charm. I like it as it is.
