So this is my punishment.
Once in 3 days not 3 times
Each day, how could I have screwed
Up so bad?  Eternity
Tilling earth, if he had sent
The snake, this mistake, this 'crime'
Would not have happened.  Ive moo'd
And moo for gods inhumanity.

Stimuli standing at attention,
ears twitching to a cacophany
of anticipation.

I tip toe amongst those who would kill me
without a second thought.
For now they feed me;
and I am grateful.

Roaring machines blare
at night, and carcusses lay
behind their trail of destruction.

The minotaur always follows closely behind,
in this strange maze of death,
but raw instinct
keeps me alive.

Border collie blues

I have so many things to ponder about
such as millennium problems, my human's PhD,
and whether dinosaur DNA can be reconstructed using data science
and their proteins folded the right way.
But all I ever do is run after a ball,
eat kibble, and pretend to like the neighbour's Labrador.
And when I dream, it is
of sheep.

Stray Proverbs

1
Affection has its uses.

2
Romance is nothing more
than a tedious night's journey,
a pointless series of fights,
an irritating dance,
an exercise in pain,
and the promise of maternal
torture. Better to be spayed
than to have sex.

3
Mates are not meant to be kept.
Nor are litters.

4
The dying offer tastes
better than the dead,
but beware: an old woman's pity
is a young fool's pride.

5
Streets were made to be walked,
cars to be climbed,
roofs to be rattled---

birds were made to be hunted,
rats to be toyed with,
dogs to be scarred.

6
Above all things, freedom,
and above that, the moon.

On Striking

I warned and warned them
even got my picture on
a yellow caution flag
with a motto...
This one’s okay
and that one’s passing
to my other side
but this next one’s about to step

I know that you saw me
on the side of the road,
my plumb brown tail waving
in the wind, as you drove up.

You'll never find my den.
All those times you followed me
down the trail, I was only
leading you away from my kits.

Even now you must admit
I'm a lovely vixen- even if
my sharp nose is bloodied,
my pointy red radar ears

still look good as new. Like I'm
still listening.  I'm stealthier
than ever now; a silent red
apparition, haunting the woods.

Domestic

I know the cats
have been up to no good
when she starts swearing
at them in Spanish.

Once she's out of the room
they'll tell me their version
of exactly what went down,

and she'll return
with a look that threatens
to start rolling her R's
if I dare take their side.
