Quartered

Whenever Dad was half
in the bag
he used to rant
about Mom's half
baked ideas on marriage.

In the divorce
they divided everything
straight down the center.

The lawyers took half
from each half.

I drink a pot of coffee                  like a total psychopath
everyday, at least 10 cups.          the more I think about it
If I share some with my wife       our days are out of control
I may make more, drink the rest winding down, spiralling up
the next morning, if I don't           take care, lines get longer and
stop at Starbucks or Dunkin's,    mild hallucinations fool
or fill a 44 oz.                                the mind while the heart reacts
secretly at the gas station.         Then what good is it.

I normally drink it black,
or with ice to drink faster.
If I'm not eating that day,
I use heavy whipping cream.
I really hate it with milk,
sugars, or flavored syrups.
If I just want to enjoy
a nice hot cup though, half, and, half.

Sometimes we spend months on a poem, and other times we crank out a gem within 33 minutes of a prompt. Nice one, Mark. Hope you are going to treat us with more of the same during our "Let's Pretend it's April " thing.
