Invasion of the Body Snatchers
I can smell the cake now
fresh out of the oven.
The warm, rich sweetness
of it cooling in the kitchen.
There's a tingling in my lips
and a twinge of apprehension-
a sense of an alien spaceship
hovering just beyond my vision.
I know when all it’s lights are lit
I’ll stand there mute, transfixed.
(How did all those candles fit?)
“Blow em out! Now make a wish!”
When I'm asked then what I wished for,
I’ll try to make it clear-
I don’t wish much anymore,
but I will take one more year.
I can smell the cake now

of it cooling in the kitchen.
There's a tingling in my lips
