Intentful Gaze
#1
The tide's ebbing away.
Inch by inch she follows each layer of sediment down.
Evaporating so quickly into bulky clouds.
Steam furling from under her velvet gown.

Further and further she goes
While mackerel and trout float belly up in the boiling sea,
While birds dive down from the heavens,
and Whales beach onto bleached corral reefs.

Until she reaches the continental shelf.
Where she coasts along the crags.
Surfacing bubbles warp the water below into a frothy jade green.
A clearing emerges where the sea drags.

She floats whistfully down to it.
Light dwindles as the sky fills with a noxious steam.
Starfish lay baked to the floor.
The ocean floor riptides by the seam.

The water drains into the deep cuts of the earth; none is left upon the surface.
Now the hydothermic vents swell with fumes and lava spits up from the ground.
She sits crosslegged as the plates on the floor dissassemble into magma.
Watching intently until she is consumed in the flames.

Quite an arresting, not to say fearful, vision. Much showing rather than telling - excellent. Must admit, I was stopped at the first line looking for a verb, perhaps just an apostrophe in "tide[']s", but after that was caught up in the progression and forgot about it.
