Upon opening this thread you have 1 hour to write a 4-8 line poem about
duct tape.

'round the boys Pa spoke
more about duct tape
than he did about Ma;
how you could dress a wound with 'er
patch a tire with 'er
practically go to war with 'er -
said she could fix just about anything
so long as she didn't run out on ya.

They first patched my broken sole,
then they patched my pants knee hole.
Then I thought I'd wrap the whole
shoe for laughs, then set a goal.
I used the rest of the roll
to complete an outfit. Role
play was hotter than charcoal
and put my soul in the hospital

Missed Opportunity
It was with mixed emotions
that the CEO of Duck Brand duct tape
discovered a new use for his product.
While the ability to restrain and silence
even the strongest potential victim
could be the focal point of a new digital campaign,
it can be difficult to maintain an upbeat perspective
in the trunk of an '04 Civic.

Duct’s origins
are the same as Il Duce’s;
tape is Old English for pluck.
So imagine Il Duce
plucking his head bald
with a silvery adhesive
that quacks.

A patchwork-pieces marionette,
cobbled together with bits of duct tape
and twine,
dangles from strings, ambivalent,
stares at her shadow’s gruesome shape
and sighs.

Magic
Somewhere there’s a land where all
things fit, no gaps however small
leak air or water and their like
from duct or inner tube of bike.
That’s not our land, we don’t live there.
But fortunately, we live where
there’s super-strength without a cape:
that magic sealer called DUCT TAPE.

Duct tape I used
to fend over wounds
in wrestling matches
that ended too soon,
I could go all day; when too
deeply juiced,
I'd sticky the loose
skin torn apart
by nails, glass and darts; it didn't look strange
it's why we had blades
and athletic tape.
Though my head was so hard,
and I so much annoyed,
I needn't a blade
to bleed without pay.
