“What fools these Human’s be”
when in love, yes I see,
but, the larger truth,
what greater fools when not,
spirits twisted and souls rot!
How pompous, vain
and condescending;
only through Love’s sufferance
might this wound be mending.
Yet they hide when seeing
healing descending
until by Valentine’s pox laid low
with a shot from Eros’ bow!
Oh, oh, OH!
It is madness, is it not?
It’s been so long that I’d forgot,
I hope it fades away…
Still, only does the grave
fools
from the foolish save!
Still...not all is sadness and sorrow,
for I shall be a grave fool on the morrow,
if I might a line from Mercutio borrow.
Till then, anon,
for I am gone and done,
my bugled sword in baldric hung!

How long after picking up the brush, the first masterpiece?

I was with you until "bugled sword". Can't make heads or tails of that.
And "till then, anon" doesn't seem needed.
Enjoyed the read.

Hi Dale,
nice bit of fun, but I'm with TqB on the 'bugled sword' (of course it might have been bulged, and that ending might be a Blackadder (series 2) joke )
Kept waiting for a 'who gives a Puck' line ... ah well.
(never-ending between Love's and sufferance?
“What fools these Human’s be”
when in love, yes I see,....................................this for yes?
but, (and here's a) the larger truth,
what greater fools when not,
Worth tightening the meter, I think.
Best, Knot

The title and "Eros bow" were worth the price of admission.
Sorta fell on your sword there at the end, or maybe I fell on it...
Still, a great, funny take on "love day".
Thanks Dale,
Mark

Knot and TqB,
"bugled sword in baldric hung", trumpeted penis is sheathed, as happens when one falls in love (See "Much Ado About Nothing...Benedict).

Welcome back Milo
You're right, it isn't equal on the sides of the "and", but I claim "wordplay" what can I say.
