Limerick Historique
There once was a writer named Conquest
who wrote about men Stalin did in
which was true but inspired a hate-fest
from Reds underjoyed they could not win
despite all they could manage
by treason and lying
they did little damage
and lumpen kept buying
America’s message
of work satisfying
men’s needs without presage
of liberty dying.
Which is why, at the Soviets’ inquest
one smiling deponent was Conquest.
(In addition to being a leading historian of Communism, Robert Conquest (d.2015) was a noted limericist - his most famous, perhaps, being
There was an old bastard named Lenin
Who did two or three million men in.
That's a lot to have done in
But where he did one in
That old bastard Stalin did ten in.
which combined his interests. Traditional typography in the original.)

Sure was
much to-ing and fro-ing,
Vikings,
a claiming
then running.
A century passed,
there was peace
at last,
alas,
the English are coming.

Where is she?
Her mother had the odor of red
like roses.
Now all I can smell is silence.
The pail is gone too,
money, numbers one of the few things
I truly understood in life.
Where is she?

plastic surgery, unwanted
bob was orchidectomized
long ago, but it was well disguised.
a big scrotal hernia
filled up his regalia.
then it jammed and the groin was incised.
the bowel was swiftly replaced,
the hole closed, the scrotum reshaped
to its now empty size,
but this act had a prize:
bob went to court, the doc payed.

A moody young man from Japan
needed work so he bought a sampan
water taxi to take
tourists on the lake
near the temple where soon
by the light of the moon
they could drink fine rice wine
from goblets sublime
debating the worth
of humans on earth
from tatami mats
while he sculled from the back,
propelled them inside
a cave. Homicide
an ugly event
but this student was bent.
He amassed on the shore
all covered in gore
their phones and IDs
for he could sell these
to pay his tuition,
stave off malnutrition.
A pirate was he
who ended his spree
with an owl, and a cat
in a runcible hat
on a beautiful pea-green boat,
all wrapped up in a five pound note.

The evening star

She is not your limp stalk,
nor will she crouch
in your blighted field.
The shape of a woman's body
does not imply consent,
or confusion. Why concern
yourself? it doesn't explain
your emasculation.

There was a gay man from the west
who bought a very tight vest
he swore it would fit
whent clubing in it
and danced whilst flexing his pecs.
