How often do you write poetry?

Do you take hiatuses?
Do certain conditions have to be met first? What about your surroundings?

Whenever an idea hits me. I have trouble finding my own inspiration, so I usually wait for it to find me. Sometimes I'll write upwards of two poems per day, other times I won't write for weeks.

Surroundings are mostly irrelevant. The issue is just nailing down the triggering idea and having time to put it all together. I take a topic or an idea and I free write for about 30 minutes to an hour. Then I go over it and look for repeated ideas that I think I'm trying to get to. I then pull those out and put a first draft together. I've went through periods where I didn't stop writing but mostly it's one to two new poems a week. I can sometimes go dry for about 3-6 months but I try not to worry about it anymore. If I feel dry I just read more poetry and critique more. It always comes back.

i have no trouble writing a poem when i want to write a poem. (though the quality of my work sucks big time hehe) sadly i don't have a lot of time. i think as of yet i've replied to almost every poem posted here. i spend a lot of time trying to create new threads. and i'm forever seaching or upping fresh audio poetry or books to site for those who wish to listen to them.

after this post i;ll do a poem for the poetry prompt thread and hopefully one for mild crit.
