New Zealand makes milk

From cows to cans to docks

Red Sky

Each day the sky bled
into night.
She was clay of clay.
The worm crawled through
her to be devoured by birth.

First
the eruption of Mount Tarawera
then the lost and found terraces
new depths of a new world
and a newer me

Great display of writing here, thank you all! From the paddocks to the woks, war chant at a wedding, women made of clay, pies and sushi, the Pink and White Terraces, and hurricanes - yes, that's NZ!

Manapouri

First thing we knew, the deal was set in stone;
the government approved a brand-new plan
to dam an upland river. On our home
a lake would grow, a benefit to man,

with hydro generators under walls
producing power, free, for industry
(or all but free), and with it came the calls
for workers - ‘You can start immediately’.

Accommodation problems meant the cost
of giant ships, world cruisers, for the crew.
Ensconced in luxury, off-shift, they watched
primeval land attacked, then built anew.

The value of a pristine place, wiped out?
We’ll pay for this forever, I’ve no doubt.

Vagabond, I love the idea of hurricane as transformation.

kolemath - the hongi and the Liverpool kiss - so different in intention, but the same actions. Nice.

The Mandela Effect

Between here and there
is a place or time
before the universe
suffered an unholy jolt;

where truth is not always
supported by artifacts
in the loft.

There are no photos
or news clippings of the day
you shucked the cocoon
and flew.
