The grave of the unknown Greek on the Lye ee Moon, sunk 1878 near Green Cape
#1
I can picture him from remakes of old movies
a swarthy foreigner in shabby clothes
pressing notes into chapped hands
still less than full fare.
Perhaps it wasn't like this, but Greeks have a reputation.
Now he lies
overgrown by blackberries, and bush tomatoes bursting green,
a solitary wombat for company
the occasional visitor in search of instant gloom
and a distant reader who wonders if there's any meaning in all this.
