Emus are way nastier than ostriches, and they steal Twisties from kids. True story.
It could be worse

Years ago four of us were sitting in a VW by the Pinch River, near the Snowy River in the middle of a wilderness area, when six large emus appeared and surrounded us. They all bent their heads down to peer into the windows, and we all felt definitely menaced! They didn't run away when the car started, but followed us. Nervous laughter. They can kick you to death, or rip out your belly like a 'roo does. Bastard birds. Smile

Got totally sidetracked by the emus. Your poem feels like a romp through styles and symbols, place and time, obeying a cosmic uncertainty principle with sharp wit and satire but still rounding out the journey with beat and heat, and incomplete. 'Rhymes with portal, seems to fit / if it don't then bugger it' I love. Smile Smile

  There was a young emu from 'stralia;
  Whose intention was quite to assail ya.
  He'd lower his head,
  And imagine you dead;
  Then he'd dance as in wild bacchanalia.

Emus' ideas of idyllic
Might seem to some copraphilic
They'll disembowel
like some psychotic fowl
Still fitting meter dactylic
It could be worse
