I said, ''I just got done watching Gone With the Wind again, and I cried so hard I almost choked.'' He said, ''What are you, a faggot or something?'' I said, ''Damn, man, that shit's intense. Have you heard that music?'' He said, ''Whatever,'' and snorted and went outside. I went out there and said, ''That girl that plays Melanie is as hot as Vivien Leigh.'' He coughed and didn't say anything. We went to the grocery store on the corner real quick before it closed and when I was coming out some guy came up to me and said, ''Have a nice fourth.'' And he waved, and I grabbed his hand and shook it as my friend pulled up to the sidewalk. ''What that nigger want?'' he said. I turned the volume up on the radio saying, ''I want to hear this CCR.'' My friend said it what'n CCR and it wasn't it was The Hollies. It was friday, and he drove me home. He said, ''I gotta get outta here.'' I said I got a 24 pack if he wanted to come in and stay a while, but he asked if I had anything left over so he could get some gas, and maybe a pack of smokes. I gave him a ten, and he said, ''I was wondering if I can get enough to get a pack of smokes too.'' I said, ''It usually rains sometime on the fourth.'' He said, ''My parents are supposed to be going to the beach tuesday.''

I enjoyed reading this, although I'm not quite sure I "got it" - but if I enjoyed reading it I guess I got enough from it. Basically I saw a picture of modern American escapism - "I gotta get out of here".
One suggestion: I presume the 4th is the 4th of July, due to the present date (and the title), but if it wasn't the beginning of July, I might not have guessed that. I'm not an American though, so Americans might pick up on that a little easier.

Nobody plays the too beautiful for her own good full of shit southern woman like Vivien Leigh. And that nose of hers, I'm almost willing to dig her up and see if it's still there so I can steal it.
The fourth of July. Have a good fourth is what people say. If I had posted this in January, would it have taken a while to assume it meant the fourth of July? I assume U.S. people wouldn't have to wonder about it. In Canada . . . I wonder if I typed 'the fourth' into a search engine if the first results would be about the fourth of July, even in January. I don't even know if people still say 'search engine.'

Vivien Leigh's nose is so sexy I'd almost be willing to have penis reduction so I could fit it in her nostrils. . . . What was that you said, not immediately obvious to those not in the U.S.? Well maybe you can suffer the having to look up what it might mean. I didn't suffer the fact that Vivien Leigh wasn't really an American girl, or that she may or may not have been cremated. I didn't know for sure. I just was willing to take it on the nose. Because I'm a brave bigshot over here in the United States of A. And I don't let anybodyforgetit.
