The voices on the moon.
#1
It all started with a full moon. Every night I stay up watching the moon. Just watching it. It’s so beautiful, but it wasn’t up until last year I started hearing the voices. The voices of the moon. I’ll tell you the whole story.

My name is Leslie Griffith. I love to read, and that’s what started my insomnia. I would stay up all night reading. I loved losing my mind in a world of books. Sometimes like I said, I would just stare at the moon. It was so beautiful. Such an inspiration for me. It was the beginning of summer when the voices had started. It was a night like any other, the stars were particularly bright. And I heard a soft beautiful voice, gentle yet alarming. Like the fairy tales where the sirens with the gorgeous voices pulled the sailors to their fate. The voice whispered my name “Leslie…” it spoke to me. I ignored it. It wasn’t until a couple of days later that I heard the voice again. And this went on for awhile, I told myself over and over it was just the rustling of the wind against the forest trees. But one night, it said more then just my name. I was sleeping when I heard “Leslie…” again. It was a bit louder than before.
“H-who are you?” I said back frightened.
“I’m your friend,, now come to the window.” It spoke gently. I arose and walked to the window taking dainty small steps. I looked out…nothing.
“Where are you?” I asked.
“I’m on the moon” the voice said.
“What’s your name?”
“My name is Lucifer” it told me. “In Latin that means to bring light”
“Are you god of the moon or something?” I asked curiously.
“No, I am just a lost soul, a night stalker” It was then I had noticed this was defiantly the voice of a male. And the voice sounded tired, even sad.
“Why did you chose me? To talk to?” I asked.
“I chose the naïve, for they are the best learners.” I would usually have been offended being called “Naïve” but this voice sounded so very wise. And so friendly and peaceful. Hard to explain in words. After that though, the voice stopped talking. Many nights passed, and still no sign of the voice. And then I had the dream. In this dream I was standing on a large marble balcony, with a brilliant full moon glowing bright in the sky. The air smelt sweet and I was dressed from head to toe in black and red. Not the raggedy old pajamas I had been wearing before. My dress was long, heel length and satin, I was wearing velvet heels and long black gloves. I spotted a mirror at the other end of the balcony and walked over. I looked beautiful. My brunette hair was pulled back into a neat bun at the back of my head, and my green eyes lined thickly with black eyeliner and mascara, and my thinly lips looked full in dark black velvety lipstick. It was then a figure appeared besides me. I could have screamed, but automatically I knew who it was. It was Lucifer. “Hello, Leslie” he spoke in a deep charming voice, much different from the voice of the moon.
“Lucifer?” I said disbelievingly. He kissed my hand as my whole body felt warm.
He smiled, “May I have this dance?” he asked politely. And out of thin air, music started playing. It played a brilliant romantic tune I had never heard before. So we started waltzing slowly.
Lucifer was tall, taller than me, with jet black hair that swept his shoulders and eyes that pierced my skin. Burning white eyes, like the glistening moon above us. His skin too glowed, very pale. The glow was beautiful yet sickening. As we danced we spoke.
“When you said you were a night stalker, what do you mean?” he frowned.
“Night stalkers is what we call ourselves, the humans, the mortals call us ‘vampires’”
I was shocked. I had seen many vampire movies, I knew vampires as cunning creatures with fangs and coffins who turned into bats.
“Prove it’ I told him, as he opened his mouth wide and bared sharp long thick fangs. They weren’t the type of fangs you would expect from a vampire, they could grow long to any extent he wanted.
“Does that mean you lust for blood?” I asked feeling slightly afraid.
“There are two types of vampires Leslie, the type who are evil, and the type who are good. It’s very black and white.”
“Y-you’re good aren’t you?” I asked anxiously.
He smiled and nodded, “I am not evil, nor do I wish to harm you or desire your blood. Vampires have no care for blood. Vampires feed on souls”
This confused me and scared me, “Souls?” I asked taken aback.
“We feed on your soul through your blood, if you’re sweet, your blood will taste sweet. If you’re mean and full of anger, your blood will taste bitter and foul, and that’s why I must warn you.”
My throat went dry, “Warn me?”
“The bad ones, the ones on the dark side, the vampires are called ‘Blood stalkers’ constantly looking for fresh blood, you see blood stalkers are very picky with what blood they want. They target those who they find interesting, amusing and rip the life right out of them. And they want you”
This news landed thoughts of horror to my mind. My heart was beating fast as a feeling of paranoia swept over me. “Will you protect me?” I whispered.
He smiled gently, “You know I will.” and the miraculous dance ended. And I awoke in my bed, and in the pajamas I had worn the night before.
Though I had only knew Lucifer for a short time, I felt closer to him than I ever had to anyone. Night after night we would talk, he would show up in my dreams and we would dine and dance and reminisce about life and dreams. One night though, I had a different dream. A terrifying sight, Lucifer was wearing a wicked grin, his smile had stretched all the way up to his ears looking scary and deformed. A mouthful of fangs gleamed yellowish white and looked old and cracked, his eyes burned red. It seemed my heart stopped as he growled softly the words. “You belong to me now” and those simple words made me sick to my very core. I awoke in a cold sweat and heard a voice, a different voice. A voice that sounded as if many people were talking at once. The voice was dreary and soft, sounded as if voices of many small children. I walked to my window.
“H-who is this now?” I asked, still nauseous and shaken from the nightmare I had just witnessed.
“We are the voices of the slaughtered,”
I was frightened “What does that mean!?” I asked almost in tears.
“Lucifer is bad, he tricked us too. And now we’re just lost souls.”
I wouldn’t believe it, I refused to. “Lucifer is a good vampire”
And the last thing the voices spoke were meaningful words, “Remember in English Lucifer means devil.” and the voices disappeared. It wasn’t until a few nights later that Lucifer’s voice appeared yet again, descending from the moon.

“Leslie, Leslie, come here.”
“What do you want?” I asked shaking slightly.
“Don’t listen to what you have heard, I am a good Night stalker, Those voices were the evil ones. They’re trying to trick you, they’re coming for you right now.” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
“Come to me, meet me in the forest. They’re on their way. Quickly now!” So I went without question, tip-toeing out the back door, and through my backyard moist with grass dew and to the dark forest which use to cast grim nightmares upon me when I was just a younger child.
“Lucifer?” I croaked.
“Right here.” said a dark menacing sounding voice behind me. I jumped, “Lucifer” I said
“What’s going on?”
He laughed, a bitter laugh. “You fell for it.” he spoke.
“Fell for what?”
“The old trick, you see, you were such a lovely girl, sweet and young. You were the perfect target. I did say I liked the naïve didn’t I?”
My heart was pounding against my chest, “I-I thought you were a g-good vampire” I choked.
“Good Night stalkers don’t exist, now think Leslie, don’t you remember me?”
It was then I had remembered, a many, many years ago Lucifer came to my dreams. I was a young child, around the age of five and I was lonely. He was my best friend until he slowly became my nightmare, torturing my soul.
“you were my boogeyman” I couldn’t believe it. He laughed. And that laugh right there, it made me angry. I was burning up inside and gritted my teeth. I picked up the nearest stone and threw it toward Lucifer. Lucifer laughed a dark cold laugh that echoed through the trees. His body stretches as he dodged the stone and howled like a maniac, zooming his outstretched hand towards me and pinning me against a tree. “This is the end” He spoke to me one last time, as I saw blackness and felt dizzy, slowly venturing into a world of my own as he bit and pierced my flesh painfully. And now I sleep in the sky among the stars, and speak through the moon imprisoned in my mind, with not many thoughts since my soul had been taking. And I stay here and watch Lucifer take soul after soul. And if I were you I would be careful, because he might just call for you one day.

Just a little story I wrote this summer.
