NaPM 2016
#1
National Poetry Month (US) will kick off on 1st April and as usual The Pig Pen will run a series of prompts/challenges in Milo's forum.

This year, all posts in this forum will be exempt from the "3 critiques for new members" rule, so anyone can sign up and join in.  Tell your friends, your nemeses, the guy who walks your dog, your dog, your dog's friend Sam -- anyone, from any part of the world, is welcome.

All other rules of The Pig Pen must be followed, of course, but they're not too onerous.  The point of NaPM is to get you writing, not to judge or discourage in any way.

Let the mayhem begin!

Yay, emz, give it a try. It's challenging, fun, a rollercoaster of success and failure but it makes for some great reading. Smile

I'll add it to my list of "daily tasks" and hope that this has some priority Big Grin haha

I think I will give it a shot, or at least some of it

Geez I can't wait!

How long after picking up the brush, the first masterpiece?

The goal is not to obfuscate that which is clear, but make clear that which isn't.

I can sense your enthusiasm. Smile Some of us need a push to write a poem a day, and you came up with some good ones last year.

I thought there was a drop off in the activity...or it may have just been the Easter holidays.
I wonder if ray's going to suddenly make an appearance for NaPM

I doubt it, here's a piece of my one and only recent communication with him about a month ago, I thought it best not to bother him again, I'm saving it up for when he returns. Big Grin

But hopefully in a year or so I'll be back it PigPen enjoying your fine company.

Since Jordan was a major founder of U.S. experimental film movement and quite "famous" in the minds of a in a tiny circle of art critics and historians, we've gotten grants for the restoration, and another foundation is donating the time and materials to do all the high resolution scans. All in all, quite a project, but one we think Jordan deserves.

Anyway, I do miss you guys; but I must be strict with myself, as pigpen is such a temptation. I actually changed my password to one of those really long computer-generated ones that I couldn't possibly remember. I put it in an envelope, sealed the envelope, and wrote on the outside: "Work on Jordan's Website!!! I got it out to leave you this message, then I'm putting it right back in. If you need to communicate with me in the future, just email me at ray@wordbiscuit.com
This will help me to avoid further temptation.

Spread the word, folks. If you're not aware, there's also a Pig Pen group on Facebook -- we'll only be running the challenges here but that's a good place for people to keep up with random piggery.

Two days to go.

Just do what milo does, triolet. Big Grin

Really though, I think it's usually only an eight line minimum and I don't recall any anyone being flogged for putting up something shorter, Ray managed to do one in eight words last year, but he always did like short lines. Thumbsup

Of course if you read the faq you will see that you are free to write about whatever you wish using as many lines as you wish. The prompts are there to help the process out.

We're off to a great start, folks! Well done to all, and welcome to all newcomers.

There is a small glitch with some new members' posts still requiring moderation, so if your posts don't show up immediately, please be patient. A mod will come along soon and make sure your post is seen. Apparently, mods don't actually live on the site waiting for things to happen, but are selfish enough to pursue work and family and stuff IRL. I know, right? Don't think they're ignoring you -- that's the last thing we'd want you to believe. (Well, that and the story about Elvis returning from his home planet just to do NaPM. Don't believe that one and stop trying to work out which member is actually him...)

i am elvis....

really good seeing fresh faces doing the NaPM. i personally won't leave feedback on anyone's poetry but take it as a given that in this instance, the doing is more important than the quality. quality which so far has been pretty damn good.

If you can spread the word via social media or in actual real life (!), that would be great. The more people who join in, the greater the energy and inspiration.
