Hi, all. I'm here to dredge up as many minions as I can. Don't let me down. Recently returned to the desert by way of Kansass, where I did a two-month stint workamping at Amazon -- horrible place, but grist for the mill, mwah ah ah ah. Left the place in a shambles, and I'm certain there are plans in the making for a statue to be erected as an homage to me (the biggest jackass/jenny ever, I'm guessing). Both "The Wizard of Oz" and "Shrek" will pale in comparison to the tale(s) I will tell (as soon as the non-compete clause has expired)! Since I couldn't be 'a stallion, baby!', I was their Nightmare. I can see only two futures for myself: to (self-)publish a global, perhaps galactic, best-seller, or die penniless and alone in this ghost town in which I unwittingly reserved a spot online :-D
In the meantime, I look forward to sharing both my flawed narratives and my evaluations with you.
My shit list runs horizontally - there's always room for you at the top

I spent some time with the amazons as well - it's true they can be tough task masters but it was the breast time I ever had.
Good luck with whatever the rest of this was about.

Hello everyone,
I'm a neophyte but enjoy playing with language. For the love of trying I don't know if I'll ever be able to understand where the stresses are on syllables. They are not at all obvious to me.
Is neophyte duh-Duh-duh.

Depends on your accent
I say it NE/o/phyte -- you'll get it, don't panic, it just takes practise so you're in the right place. Welcome. Loving to play with language is the best (some might say the only) place to start.

Is that double entendre?
Liquor does help with both stresses.
Though in my experience liquor causes way more stress than it relieves. Is that a good thing?
Damn the stress of stress (its too easy).

I am not sure. When searching for answers, liquor seems to come up a lot. I recommend it for many situations.

Note that "liquor" and "alcohol" both have stresses on the first syllable... then the stress eases...

If you listen to any kind of music, you can feel the stresses. Just imitate that.....and welcome. It's funny, milo suggested fudge for me.....
I am a disgruntled creative-writing major who has been working in the snack food business for five years now. I'm trying my hardest to get back to writing fiction when I can find the time between my demanding job and children. When life gets to me I get to poetry. I love writing about the absurdities of my job, my self, and anything else that pops into my head. I hope you all will welcome a snack food salesman into your fold of intellect and artistry. I've been looking for a place like this for a while now and I think I just stumbled onto what I've been needing. And also, a very irresponsible disclaimer: I only sleep about four hours a night and drink more than I should. My brain cells are deteriorating at a rapid pace so I must write as much as I possibly can before it's too late. If I make a typo, please let me know because that IS important, but just...don't judge me!!

Hi Al welcome to the drunken zombie zone.
We are fully global here - there will be someone to play with at all hours.
See previous four comments above - apparently liquor and alcohol both have their place...but there is some discussion about where the stresses fall.
I major in spelling errors - so get in the queue behind me to be mocked as these are pointed out and corrected. (But if you take the crit in the way it is intended - not judged).
All the best AJ.

Hey folks! I chose ChessPiece because Rook was already taken. I'm here because I just started writing again. It's been nearly 20 years but I'm having a blast getting back on the horse so to speak. I'm looking forward to reading and critiquing some of your poetry here and looking for the same in return. In case anyone is wondering I can't play chess to save my life but I like the handle. Cheers!

Never saw a chess piece with a handle before
Welcome. Poetry is a bit like riding a bike -- you never really forget how. Also, if you don't pay attention you'll end up with bits and pieces all over the place...

Yeah i should have said bike...reading back it sounds like I'm back on heroin LOL
I have just filed a patent on chess pieces with handles, I think this could really take off!
Also I'm just one chess piece so its every piece for themselves. I'll be the first one back up on the board

Hi, chess, I took a similar long break from writing. This is a fine place to sharpen up your skills.
Welcome.

Hi everyone
I’ve been away from poetry sites for quite a while. A weighty project consumed all my free time. I am glad to be back in a forum where my passion for poetry is shared by like minded persons.
