Hello, I used to write poetry. But, I kind of felt like that fat guy in slingblade with his parting the waters of the medulla oblongata.
Actually, I think when I saw that scene the second or third time was the last time I tried to write anything.
I guess I felt like I sounded like him. Some brute trying to sound deep and just sounding stupid.
But tonight I wrote a poem:

My spirit is restless tonight.
It is a wild and undulating thing made up of tarnished mechanical bits and pieces
And I cannot sleep.
It moves erratically and unpredictably like some varmint rustling through the leaves.
It seems to freeze in place when I try to lock on to it, its shape or intent.
Only to spasm and jerk into motion showing fleeting glimpses of what it is
What it wants
What it looks like
Where it is broken

Hi. Many people feel fat quite often. Just look at yourself in the mirror and say, "I am beautiful as I am."

Not that I felt fat, more pathetic. I wasn't fat then.

But I'm fine now, although now I am fat. : )

Hello!
I'm very new to all of this but thought I would introduce myself. I'm Anna, and here to share some very amateur poetry, it's my first go at this so all the criticism and guidance you have to give would be greatly appreciated!

Hi.
I'm almost 18 and sometimes I write.
I cannot always get the difference between stressed and unstressed syllables and most of my poems are written at midnight or on the bus or in a really boring class.
I like Keats and Shelley and sometimes Byron even though all that stuff is like nearly archaic and I honestly don't understand some of it.
One time I went to the school library and checked out some translations of Rimbaud. I giggled at them and passed the little book around class.
I hope I passed my AP tests this year...
Thanks for reading!

Hi,

I'm 21 and I love language in general. I've discovered the joy of rhyming words when I was about twelve and have since written "poems" (looking back, not all of them really deserve that title) in my native language, German.

I've only started writing poetry in English a while ago, but I really enjoy it - there's something very different to writing in a language that you learned in an "academic" setting. In a way I feel like I am more aware of the language as a "human creation", since it doesn't come as natural as the language I've grown up with (and don't really remember "learning"). It's also a lot harder! Wink

I really look forward to reading and learning from your poems - I am a little unsure whether I'll be able to give any useful feedback but I'll certainly do my best - and of course I'll very much appreciate any thought on my own writing (when I feel confident enough to post it Wink )

Hello, my name is Kevin! I'm five days off of my drug of choice, heroin. In the past five days I felt the needed to start venting all the dark things I couldn't and wouldn't say to people, so I started writing it down and I guess I signed up just to see if my writing is any good. Smile

Hello Everyone,

I'm a newbie here on this poetry site, I go by puddles1947, call me puddles for short. I've been a writer of poetry since high school, but did not realize this until 2001, when I wrote a anniversary poem to my wife. I hope I have found a friendly poetry site to post my poems, been looking for some times, and founds many, but not friendly at all. I started putting my poetry to audio going on 5 years, hard to believe that much time has gone by, but it has. I record my words with a instrumental in the background, so will love to read and hear others who feel about poetry as I do. I live near San Antonio, Texas, where I was born, hope to get to know each of you in the coming months, thanks in advance for any welcome you may give this wayward Texan............Roland.....
