Hi, my name is Autumnalis Galerina! I have been sharing poetry online for a long time on another site, but have decided to spread my spores. I hope to share some critique soon and some of my own poetry after spending some time reading others' poetry here to get a feel for the place.

Hi, I'm John. I'm new to poetry. I have written song lyrics for about ten years and I'm curious to see to what extent one helps me with the other.

Hello John and welcome to the Pen.
The cross-section of song-writing and poetry is a great topic for discussion. I am sure we have touched on it here and there but I would be up for another run at it.
Have a look around. Make yourself at home.

Hi, John, welcome to the Pen! We've had members working on that here, I'm sure we have threads about areas where poetry and songwriting overlap and where they differ. Feel free to poke around, I hope you enjoy the site.-ella

Hi all, I'm P, and I'm from England.
I have browsed through the different forums, and I am delighted to know that there is a wealth of literature for me to read. I particularly enjoy poems intended to be sung or performed, those with a lovely meter and musicality. Hence why I have watched the performance of The Raven in that one Simpsons episode a thousand times or so.
I graduate from university this year, so writing has been quite a useful creative outlet for me as I navigate changing tides.
Looking forward to getting to know you all! You all seem so talented and welcoming, in equal parts.

Hi, P, welcome to the pen, so glad you're enjoying the site. If you're interested in poems with a clear meter don't miss the practice threads. There are clear explanations of forms with set meter, rhymes and refrains. Feel free to try them out and post them there, you'll see the skill level varies widely, that's the way we like it. I enjoyed reading your poem and will go back with comments, but think you might have fun trying a dizain, you'll see the thread in practice.
Anyway, enjoy poking around, lots to do and read. -ella

Hooray! I'm already learning. I'll research the structure of a dizain and give it a go in my free time.
Thank you for such a warm introduction!

Hi Milo, it is lovely to meet you too! I have already browsed a few of your poems and I love them. Though I don't think I'm quite yet qualified to comment on many of them... just yet...

Hello! I'm a 55 yr old man who has loved music, art and poetry for many years. I should be accomplished at all of these by now. Haha, I'm not. I'm abstaining from youtube for Lent, funny thing happens when you quit a nasty addiction, you get back into old passions. I began playing bass again and started reading poetry again. Bought a stack of new poetry books off ebay. Sadly I haven't written a darn thing - yet. Which brings me here. A long time ago I wrote a poem about my Father. If you are familiar with Van Goghs "Starry Night," you may have noticed the tiny Church in the town beneath Vincent's radiant, swirling night sky. I wrote the poem imagining I was a boy gazing out the window of that Church, sitting in Vincents world, gazing into Vincent's sky!
I still have an active imagination.
Just needs a good jump-start.
Nice to be here.

Hello. I am wizz. im a student and i like writing poems to express my own thoughts and feelings. they are usually quite personal but i'm trying to expand my styles and finding ways to write poems about more things. I have been doing free verse for a while (though not very well) and i decided it would be good to try different structures. might need some help with ryhme and meter and abit more clarity and direction of my poems.

Hello
55 is a great age to start focusing on the real priorities and those just happen to be poetry!! The toughest part about poetry is ideation (well, it can be pretty tough grinding through it when the words don't feel like they will come) and you clearly have a poet's mind. By some strange coincidence the wonders of the internet have brought you to the greatest place for both -welcome to the Pen!!

Heyo wizz!
I have seen you around and you have a poet's heart. you won't find a better way to put words to it than the Pen - no university on earth can teach you what you will find right here.
Welcome!!

And yes, indeed, welcome to all you hopeful people!
Pig pen is an old box stained by the piss and vinegar
of countless vagabonds. It's a big old box with plenty
of space still available; think of it as a hungry mouth
waiting to be fed.
all this useless beauty... but what the hell, why not?

I've already learned a thing or two! And I've already started writing! That's what I was having a hard time with. Man I have so much to learn. What an adventure!

Hello P ! Welcome to the Pen! I just joined myself a couple days ago. I've heard about that episode The Simpsons, I need to check it out. I have an admiration for many things your country has produced. (especially poets) I even have a United Kingdom "wrap" across the hood of my car. Fun fun! Hopefully I will visit England one day!
I'm already having fun on this site and learning things!
Cheers!

Welcome Wizz, I'm new myself. I'm already learning things, AND working through simply not writing at all.
Have fun!
