Whether One or One Hundred (for Leanne)

Whether One or One Hundred

for Leanne (not because it resembles you in anyway, but because you are sooo fond of the type!)

That imperious urge,
age does seem to purge,
but to misquote the poet gently,
I'll not limp into that darkening night bently.
Let the fire burn higher and higher,
no cold tomb for me,
but a blazing pyre.
If you can not watch, then flee
—for I will not mind my Q's or PC's
to sit upon the beach a hypothetically
year longer. Truth can burn the eyes,
were I the sun and had you eyes—
I will burn as a sun until there's nothing left to burn,
all about and all around, a Big Top poet:
not only from the top;
as a candle that time's forgot
resisting 'til the end, its end,
until for lack of fuel…

*I coined the termed "bently" for Tom.

How long after picking up the brush, the first masterpiece?

The goal is not to obfuscate that which is clear, but make clear that which isn't.

"If you can't bother to limp bently, don't bother to limp at all." - Suomy Nona

And just why doesn't Leanne resemble that remark?
If you tickle her, does she not laugh?

Poem appreciated.

I shall not let age torment me --
if I'm limp I'll get a Bentley.
I've consumed your pearly swine --
if you're hungry, get in line.

Don't mind me, I need to P
all along your measly Q;
I do so resignedly
and bid poetry adieu.

Time did not forget your candle --
rather, to avoid the scandal,
time took off its clothes to caper
naked past your wrinkly taper.

Hallmark, you have much to do,
now's the time for trite, my friends,
do submerge your urgent purging --
one good Puck shall make amends.

Tanks R&L

Good Puck will only make amends,
on condition of a gift of hands.
Not from the elbow need they be,
from the wrist is fine with me.

Up and down and up and down,
rub with vigour at your whim,
show them off in field and town:
two sweet berries on one stem.

Ah, we've (I've) missed you Dale.
