english books for foreign speakers

I'd like to see some suggestions of real books (not adaptations)  that a english student can read, from begginer to advanced. 

Begginer, something i can read with a pop music/ newspaper vocabulary. Advanced, something really hard even for the average native speaker.

Anything by Dan Brown to anything called Finnegans Wake.

If you want to write poetry, a long poem with footnotes may be good to read.
