< all about you again >
it was winter just a while ago
but now
it's spring
and spring
is all about you again
you and your face
seen turning
just a glimpse
a flash of eye
a blue
a green
a glint of sun
reflected
in your words and breasts and legs
and what you say with your clear smile
and spring
is all about you again
and summer
is you
you and your hands
pulling the boat about
in sea
and clouds
as white
as sails
and fall
and you
as bright as red
and leaves
that dust us
in their orange and brown
and winter
leaves its coat on us
the white of snow
the black of branches reaching out to spring
and spring
is all about you again

The first time I read this poem I was all set to hate it. It is an unapologetic love poem complete with all the syrupy sweetness and it is an excellent example of a writer that has studied poetry long enough to know the rules as he tosses them aside to great effect. The imagery is interspersed just enough and it is visceral and real. The language and breaks accent the unapologetic love.
I have read this poem at least 100 times and I am still discovering things I love about it. I will definitely read it 100 more.

this is wonderful, and I hate poems about flowers that bloom on the soul, I much more into the underbelly where everything rots and festers. But this was a refreshing change.

extremely worthy of being in the hog house. this is my first time reading it and it's one those buggers you can't really fault for want of trying. i personally think ray is one of our more exceptional poets and this shows it. the enjambment, the originality, the ability of the poet and the poem in drawing the reader in and making them read it over and over.
nice one ray.
great choice milo.

Cool poem. Sometimes I just like a poem that gets me in the heart where it wants to be gotten.
Dig. You cool.
You can't hate me more than I hate myself. I win.

O, this is a cool poem. Now imagine if someone were to read it brooding. I reiterate, O.
Good post.

It is a great reward to enjoy a poem. This has the guise of something minimalist, it is simple, or deep as you wish. Simple, for me.

I love the spring of this. It's like one of those long curls that bounces with each step.

You'd think that people would
Have had enough of silly love songs
But I look around me and I see it isn't so
Some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs
And what's wrong with that?
Beautiful poem, Ray.
