syria bans the burka

which seems to shoot down the racist theory re France, Belgium, Spain and other European countries who have or are in the process of banning the burka in public places,seeing as Syria is a Muslim state. i think i read that the uk won't be banning the burka because it infringes on personal rights.

in your opinion is the UK being stupid or fair. what is fair and what isn't re the burka. when a Muslim country says it's degrading to women do we agree. what about the women who want to carry on wearing the burka?

Banning a style of clothing is as repressive as requiring it, I think. But obviously the face
must be shown on formal identification, and vision has to be unobstructed when driving a car.

ergo, UK = fair [Image: drinks.gif]

not if the muslims declare a holy war (as is often the case)
against the ruling party for embracing western religious beliefs?
a holy war has brought down more than one regime in the middle east before now.

I'm against banning aspects of a peoples religion (if it causes no harm to others). It's every human's right to practice their faith no matter how absurb it may seem to others.
If this is what the muslim women want then the burka should be banned ... the law could very well be a blessing in disguise for these women. I can't imagine anyone really wanting to wear that thing but then I'm not muslim.
They should ask the women what they want.

i think many of the muslim woman actually
wish to wear the burka Kath. maybe it gives them
a sense of being or they use it as an anchor.
maybe they see it as their right.

i think in some cases the woman should show her face
but if they want to cover up in everyday
life then i think they should be allowed to.

Those that you mentioned and "old habits die hard".
I would love to hear their (muslim women's thoughts) on it all.
I wish there was an international forum site dedicated to women expressing themselves and sharing diffrences in cultures.
You know me on Suprbay and now here on The Pig but it's mostly made up of men. I also belong to a horse forum which is primarily women but you can only talk horse talk there. Tongue

lmao at only talking horse.

i remember seeing a bbc program though i can't recall it's name;
which was an open forum most of the women (about half the audience) were muslim and it verged on 90% of them wanting the burka or should i say, not to be told they couldn't wear it.
many didn't but felt the choice should be theirs and not an imposed one.

If a muslim woman is really devote then she should wear a bhurka, as it is said in the Qu'uran by orders of their god , Allah. If they decide to be devote then we should not deprive them of their right to wear according to their beliefs.

What is concerning however is the possibility of women being forced to be Muslim (by men) and to wear this dressing against their will.

i agree with both points.
though i do think at airports etc they should be scanned and searched
i think anyone wearing a parachute and hiding their face should recieve the same treatment (even hoodies Wink )

an edit from france;

Two Muslim women were ordered out of a swimming pool at a holiday camp because they were wearing “burkinis”.

The pair shocked fellow bathers as they leapt into the water in all-over swimsuits, including a hood to hide their hair.

Police were called to the camp in Port Leucate in southern France as a row developed and the husband of one of the women allegedly threatened staff.

The incident comes just 10 days after French MPs voted to ban wearing a burka in public. A camp spokesman said the “burkini” ban was for hygiene reasons.

Burkini;
a word i've never heard before.
what next, will nuns be swimming in butterfly hat and cloak?
do we draw lines or open windows?
it's so easy to argue both sides of this equation and so hard Angry
