I went to see the man
who was off to face the dragon,
he was off to face the dragon
to save the maiden fair.
In the center of the pub,
he banged his fists a-braggin',
he was off to face the dragon
whose life he would not spare.
For hour after hour,
flaggon after flaggon,
his tongue kept a-waggin'
while he went on a tear.
So there he stood, a fool
who was off to face the dragon,
but had fell off of the wagon,
so he really didn't care.

it reminds me of the old (black and white film i think) robin hood film where the term flagon with the dragon is used. it was a fun read

I stumbled on S3L4 both because of the meter and I wanted to read "tear" as "teer" as in liquid from our eyes. But anyway this little ditty about a great modern day George definitely made me smile!

Yeah that is what I had in mind too. I had to get this silly little poem out of my mind because it was driving me crazy :p

Thanks.
That line could be better, you're right. I'll give it some thought.

Oh, is this a Billanelle.
I went off to deface a dragoon, but I huffed all my spray paint before I got there. Boy was my face red.

First part a bit boring (yes, I know it's a villanelle and it's hard to make them interesting) BUT the end was hilarious!

I am reassured that you must be way smarter than I am every time you post and I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

I honestly didn't know it was a villanelle

Mark,
Actually I was just making a joke, combining Billy with villanelle. because it had some of the elements of a villanelle, as in the repetition of the line "he was off to face the dragon". I probably should have written it "Billyanelle" but I was afraid no one would get the joke...which I guess they didn't anyway. I'm not smart simply clever, and sometimes to clever for my own good
Personally, as I have said on many occasions, I hate villanelles. If one were going to label this as a form it would be a
doggerel. It is comic, and does not follow a set meter, although you do repeat the pattern of the initial stanza throughout the poem. To me, that is just as admirable, if not more so, than writing something in straight meter, as it requires a set, but irregular pattern to be followed each time. So when I say doggerel, I do not mean it in any disparaging way.

Dale,
Billanelle . . . heh, I should have gotten that. Unfortunately, I am not so 'versed' in these matters. :p
A billanelle would not be capitalized and would need to involve either farting or boogers.
