US busts 'deep-cover' Russian spy ring
#1
NEW YORK (AFP) – The United States cracked open an alleged Russian spy ring Monday, announcing the arrest of 10 "deep-cover" suspects after unraveling a mission secretly monitored by the FBI for more than a decade.

An 11th suspect remained at large as US authorities busted a network of sleeper agents tasked with secretly penetrating American policy-making circles and reporting back to their spymasters in Moscow.

"You were sent to USA for long-term service trip," read a message decrypted by the FBI and said to be from Moscow Center, the headquarters of the SVR intelligence service, a successor to the Cold War-era KGB.

"Your education, bank accounts, car, house etc. -- all these serve one goal: fulfill your main mission, i.e. to search and develop ties in policy-making circles in US and send intel to C (Moscow Center)."

sounds like they want to infiltrate
the gov in order to influence policy making...
if of course it's true.

Hmm, from what I understood they just wanted to be privy to all the insider infromation regarding US policy. Though maybe actually influencing policy could be the next logical step.

Though it all sounds like a cold war spook story, I think there's a good chance this is true. I mean, every major country has an intelligence agency, so it's not hard to imagine that this is how they spend at least some of their resources.
PS. If you can, try your hand at giving some of the others a bit of feedback. If you already have, thanks, can you do some more?

i agree, there all at it.
just funny when some of them get caught.
i've no doubt if found guilty, they'll be bartered off
against something the USA wants.

if that's all these people were up to than i can see nothing wrong with it,actually a nice way of living, getting married and dig up large bags of money
if you have been following these people for 10 years then you have to make something out of it

There's spies everywhere. They don't have to be secret agents, or even Russian. Just needed to relay information to someone else.

I don't know if I should believe the story Confused.

i'd say it was true
though why they would go to
all that trouble seems ludicrous lol.
imagine if the were able eventually to
influence foreign policy.

if it weren't rue i think
the russians would be screaming like banshees
and closing down american embassies left right and center

They're not the best spies I've heard of (well, obviously, since they got caught). I heard on some news channel that they had facebook. A good way to keep a low profile Smile.
