how old should someone be before
being able to vote? and why.

i'm going to kick off by saying 14. most kids should have a general
knowledge of the world and politics by then, and idea about education and all the other stuff. they are are often the ones affected by the choices gov's make. jmo

I think draft age, drinking age and voting age all should be set the same, at 18 years of age.
I definitely agree that if you're old enough to get drafted, you're old enough to vote. I also think 18 a reasonable age to drink legally in public places.
That said, voting is a different matter isn't it? Shouldn't kids have some kind of say in how the world affects them? Wouldn't it teach or make some kids more aware of their world with a wish to take part in what's happening. Sometimes i think kids are smarter than what we give them credit for.

Hmmmm 14....let me think...smoke rises....room gets hard to see in....You've got to be jokeing man. Whats on the mind of a 14 year old boy....his dick thats what. They are all walking talking dick heads, I know this and so do you. They are for sure smarter than most think them but not a chickens scratch worth of experience to draw from to even begin to be able to make an intelligent check mark on a ballot.
They are either in party mode or bangin mode and most of the time in quest of both. I'll admit there are those 14 year olds that may have what it takes which looking at the rest of us voters is not saying very much indeed but they are very few in number. We all know them, the nerd in school that everyone picked on because he or she was smarter than the cool crowd. 1 in 30 or more does not justify allowing the rest of the 14 year old population the right to vote for tax free ribbed condums and lowering the drinking age in my honest opinion. Really!

and the difference between a 14 yr old and an 18 yr old is? the latter has the raging hormone thing under control. most 18 yr old's think of nothing but dick dipping and getting rat-arsed drunk.
i seriously doub't anyone running on a platform to lower the drinking age to 14 would get the votes. despite if every 14 yr old voted for them.

Sorry billy but your sudgestion is just absurd man. It's never going to happen thank something or other. Look man it starts with voteing then drinking then marrage then the army and driveing and really man come on it is just a very unresponsible thing to even put on the table let alone seriously consider man. I give the idea 2 thumbs down and go for a dump and another cup of coffee. Smile

i can see it never happening.
in the uk i think you can join the armed forces at 16
with your parents consent.
it used to be that way. many 16 year olds earn their own living.
and pay taxes. shouldn't they be allowed the right to vote. whats so special about 18...why not make it 31

Well it used to be that way in Canada also and as a matter of fact i am pretty sure it still is. I am all for raising it to 31 years of age. 18 seems to be the age where more than anything else young people seem to grow legs and want to wander off to screw up their lives for themselves without our help. Also seems to be the age when most parrents want them out on their own also. So with those 2 thoughts in mind it is easy to figure the reason for the age being 18. 31 though being a much more attractive age as far as voteing rights go is not really going to go over well with the rest of it. I have a much better idea.....lets revoke womens rights to vote, i'm all for that little peice of business however it also holds about as much of a responsible thought process as lowering the voteing age to 14.
