Flight

Flight

Leaves fall,
encircling the crowd like a cage.
I am frustrated,
it’s jammed.

Chest beating with fear,
time catches up with me.
The sound of thunder invades my thoughts,
my mind and body,
jump as one.
My feet react fast,
too quickly.
Comprehension dawns,
fight or flight.

A silhouette looms ahead of the rest,
shades of brown and orange,
are crushed.
Limbs in sync,
proximity close.

I aspire to move like that,
so fluid and free.
I can’t,
bound by metal and deceased hope.

I feel a close presence.
Labored breaths on my back.
Fear engulfs my senses,
pounding,
pounding,
pounding.

Chaos has quickly moved on,
I hear the leaves rustle,
the air thickens.
Something is wrong.

The girl lays on hard earth,
so small and fragile.
a bird shot from flight.
Crippled,
like me.[/font]
