Mark, old fruit, I am prepared that accept that non-circmicision of males may leave them more sensitive, although it makes me a bit wild, since I was circumcised, for no reason that my mum could give, save that it was all the fashion (when bombs were raining down?) Sex was not spoken of, and it surprises me that she told me this: generally, the attitude was that there 'had never been anything like that in our family'. You look like a sensitive chap, and perhaps society is the better for my half-hearted interest in such things --otherwise, I might have burdened them with ten children, instead of just the five.

But have we, as males, not turned this into a male-centric topic? 'Circumcision' literally, means 'cutting around' which pretty well describes the process of cutting off the foreskin. But it is a weasel word for butchering a woman, and depriving her of the most basic human joy and happiness, and I include inthis, her ability to please her loved one , and vice versa, and then vice versa again.

I should have added that the Head Waiter at Al-Azhar, which is the oldest university, has issued a fatwa stating that this is no part of Islam. But at village level, the ignorant local Imam was still spouting this stuff to the journalist, and villagers. Depressingly, it was the old regime, led by Suzanne Mubarak, the ex-President's wife, that passed a law, largely ignored, in 2008, totally banning this practice. A member of the more extreme religious bloc in the new government, the Salafis, simply said they had other things to think about. One can only hope.
